Amazing Vintage Top, Beaded with Sequins

Amazing Vintage Top, Beaded with Silver Sequins and Beaded in Gold. A sleeveless, cream-colored zephyr wool shell with a metal zipper down the back that fully unzips. This beauty is from my personal collection and was handmade in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s. These wool, hand-beaded, hand-sewn sequin tops, typically made in Hong Kong, are very hard to find in this condition. I did find one online, priced significantly higher, and it didn’t have the beaded “fringe” across the hem that mine has — absolutely stunning as you walk. It is lined in pale yellow, fabric unknown (feels like a silky rayon). The twist-beading creates a scalloped pattern, evocative of mermaid scales. There are dangling beads all along the hem as well as triple-strand clusters of them, here and there across the front and back of this exquisite top. All dangling bead strands have a single, cream- colored oval bead on the bottom. No missing embellishments. Labeled a Medium but it’s definitely vintage sizing, and it seems to be a perfect Size Small, measuring 17” across underarm to underarm. It’s a bit too loose on my Size XS dress form. Bought years ago in a vintage shop when I lived in LA and wore once on NYE. Time to pass it on. 💝
