It keeps time very well.I wound it up 8 hours ago and it has kept time perfectly.If you plan on putting it in a bedroom please know that if nothing else is on you will hear the ticking from it running. This is how it is made. -I do not know if the alarm on it works,because honestly I do not know how to set the alarm on this type of clock,but again it keeps perfect time. -Last,older clocks like this have to be rewound daily or weekly. I am not sure how often this one has to be wound up because it is still going. -great accent piece, shelf decor,or nice for someone who collects old clocks
