Vintage Celadon Green Jade Glaze Pottery Soup Tureen With Handle & Lid Made in Thailand | Mid Century | Minimalism Interior |
Thai celadon pottery, renowned for its distinctive jade-green glaze, has a rich history dating back to the Sukhothai period (13th to 15th centuries). Introduced to Thailand through trade with China, celadon ceramics were adopted and refined by Thai artisans, who developed unique styles and techniques. The green glaze is achieved by firing a glaze containing iron oxide at high temperatures in a reducing kiln, resulting in the characteristic crackled appearance.
The soup tureen, a vessel designed for serving soups and stews, became popular in Europe during the 18th century and has since been produced in various forms worldwide. Thai celadon artisans have incorporated this form into their repertoire, creating functional yet decorative pieces that reflect traditional craftsmanship made around the 80s.
