This rare, antique wooden duck was hand carved by Captain Ike Phillips (1850s-1950s), circa early 20th C. Wachapreague, Virginia.
Modeled after a Bluebill or Black Duck, it has an elongated teardrop shaped body with Phillips' signature inletted head. Beautifully rendered in its simplicity.
This duck was once a working, floater duck hunter decoy, complete with hand wrought iron lead weight and leather hook. As such, any original paint has worn off.
A very special addition to a decoy or Folk Art collection, perfect gift for a hunter or angler and/or decor for a country house or fishing cabin.
SIZE: Just over 13” long and about 4 3/4” at widest point by about 6.5” H. Weight: 1.7 lbs
CONDITION: Gorgeously aged with honest wear. Everything from the warm patina, smooth surface, cracks, wear and prior repairs reveal the beauty of its vintage, hand carving and craftsmanship, and its years of use as a working decoy. As mentioned, any paint it may have had at one time has worn off. Priced accordingly. Please see all photos and feel free to ask questions.
