Theresa Waseta Zuni Sterling Silver Inlaid Corn Maiden Pendant or Pin

This Corn Maiden is in excellent condition. Silver changes over the years but it has been gently cleaned. The Zuni corn maiden represents strength, creation, and wisdom. The Corn Maidens fled to the land of everlasting summer. It is their breath that brings the rain and warm breezes of summer to the lands of winter. In the legend, the Corn Maidens return to dance when the corn is a foot high. Corn was and still is a staple crop that has sustained many Native American tribes. This maiden has the sterling silver mark on back but I do not see the artist signature, however it was purchased from a rather elegant store in the Zuni area of New Mexico while visiting. You will not be disappointed by this unusual maiden with a red dress. Dressed in a traditional Zuni dress, the Sterling is fitted with Turquoise, Mother of Pearl, Spiny Oyster and Jet. There are drop accents on the sides of her skirt. Including the 5mm bail, it's 2-1/2" tall and 1" at the widest.
