Opened wide, the case is about 5 inches tall. Vintage Split Cowhide Brown Leather Dopp Kit With Talon Top Zipper. Talon's vintage zippers have a long and storied history in the fashion industry. In the 1940s and 1950s, Talon zippers were used in military uniforms and flight jackets and became a symbol of American style and craftsmanship. Dopp style kits became popular during the World War II when GIs found them to be the best way to store toiletry gear while serving. Upon return to the states the popularity of the bags continued to increase and were imitated by other makers. The dopp kits typically were leather bags over a metal frame. The metal frame functioned to stand the bag wide and tall when open and yet fold down into a compact kit when closed ready to be packed neatly away. The vintage leather dopp kits are a nice long lasting self indulgence when compared to the many disposable short lived toiletry cases marketed in today's world.
