One Chinese Export Cinnabar and Silver Filigree articulating, hinged bracelet with clasp closure and chain safety. This elegant bracelet is hand assembled and crafted with an intricate red floral design and magpie. The Magpie or Xique (喜鹊), in Chinese, are a symbol of good fortune and happiness. The Chinese word for magpie, "xǐquè," includes "xǐ" (喜), which means happiness, and "què," refers to the bird. Magpies are often depicted in art, literature and jewelry, particularly in conjunction with plum blossoms, bamboo, and other natural elements which carry individual auspicious meanings. This piece is likely late 19th century or early 20th century.
