Kūzan-Jin Japan 1970s Goshiki Guinomi Five-Color Sake Cups With Box, 2.5x1.5”
Great vintage condition consistent with its age. Pictures are part of the description, please check them & let me know if you require additional ones.
Defects & imperfections - please check pictures made under the bright light & magnification:
- One of the five cups appears slightly different in glaze and finish from the others — likely a later replacement. It is the same size and fits perfectly in the box, but has a smoother and more uniform glaze than the other four.
- scuff on the top of the box, practically unnoticeable in real life.
Fascinating Fun Facts:
•Goshiki means “five colors,” a theme in Japanese art symbolizing balance and harmony.
•Guinomi cups are wider than traditional ochoko, designed to enhance sake’s aroma and flavor.
•The wooden box (kiribako) is signed 空山人作 (Kūzan-jin saku, “made by Kūzan-jin”) with his red seal, confirming it as a studio piece.
•Kūzan-jin, meaning “Person of the Empty Mountain,” is likely a poetic artist’s name typical of Japanese studio potters during the Mingei (folk craft) revival.
Dimensions:
- box 12.75 x 2 x 2 in
- cup 2.5 x 1.5 in
