Ostby & Barton 10k Necklace

10k Ostby & Barton necklace with amethyst paste (glass) stone and tiny pearl drop. I purchased this necklace when I heard that Mr. Ostby perished on the Titanic and it felt like I was wearing a bit of romantic history. The story is that Mr. Ostby and his daughter were on the Titanic and he returned to his cabin to get the jewels he had with him. Meanwhile he was separated from his daughter and she was put in a lifeboat and he sadly perished. She ran the company after this until 1950. This necklace is simply lovely, even without an interesting history. The stone is glass, the pearl drop may be real, it is marked 10k and OB on both the bail and the closure. Beautiful Art Deco design. 18”
