Offered for auction is a truly unique and collectible Paragon fine bone china teacup and saucer set, featuring a rare hand-painted interior design of two herons in flight over a pond, labeled "Herons" inside the bowl of the cup.
This piece was produced between 1939 and 1952, as confirmed by the double royal warrant backstamp awarded to Paragon by H.M. Queen Mary and H.M. Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother). Pieces with this mark are highly collectible, and wildlife/nature themes—especially painted inside the cup—are particularly rare and sought after.
The pattern number is hand painted on the bottom of the saucer, which appears to be S6962 L. This hand-painted mark would've been added by the decorator, not machine-stamped, confirming the set was part of a limited or small-run pattern (and not mass-produced). It also supports the idea that this was not part of a named commemorative series but rather a collectible nature-themed line.
