Vintage Maltese Cross Pendant by Sphinx (England). The Maltese Cross dates back to the Knights of St. John, who adopted it during the Crusades to represent their bravery for fighting fires and caring for the sick. The eight points of the Maltese Cross are also said to represent the eight obligations of a knight, such as living in truth, having faith, and being merciful. The Maltese Cross, most famously associated with firefighters, symbolizes courage, protection, and service. This Maltese Cross pendant is approximately 2.4” at each of the eight points. Please see photos. The center has a red ruby-like stone and is surrounded by smaller, multi-colored stones on each of the 8 points. All stones are intact. In excellent condition.
