Levi Strauss, the founder of the famous blue jeans company, was born into a Jewish family in Bavaria, Germany, in 1829. He immigrated to the United States in the mid-1840s with his family to escape anti-Semitic restrictions in Europe. After establishing a successful dry-goods business in San Francisco, he partnered with Jacob Davis to patent the riveted work pants that became the iconic Levi's blue jeans. Beyond his business achievements, Strauss was a known Jewish community leader and philanthropist, Strauss was an active member of the Jewish community & prominent philanthropist in San Francisco.
