This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner. The liner's exterior retains its original olive drab factory finish. It is NOT refurbished / restored / repainted. It was worn by my father-in-law. It has his regiment decal on it. Mfr logo looks like an embossed “F” in the crown. I can’t get a clear picture of it.
The liner has some chips, scratches & minor cracks from wear. The inside of the liner is dirty and has some staining to the webbing. The liner overall is in good shape and will make a great addition to any WW2 era M1 helmet shell missing a liner
NOTE: A true US WWII M-1 helmet liner can be identified through the frontal eyelet hole. If an M-1 helmet liner has one, there's a good chance it was made during WWII.
NOTE: The majority of US WWII M-1 helmet liners had a cotton herring bone twill (HBT) cloth suspension. The HBT cloth was either a single or multiple weave pattern. This HBT suspension was held tightly within the M-1 helmet liner by rivets and a series of triangular "A" washers. The three upper suspension bands were joined together with a shoe string. This way the wearer could adjust the fit. A true US WWII M-1 helmet liner would alway have this string tie. Later M-1 helmet liners made in the 1960s did not.
NOTE: Part of the adjustable head band in this liner is leather, not cloth.
