HISTORY January 1, 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved, or the "Velvet Divorce," into two separate nations, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Women wore hats adorned with plumes primarily in the late 19th century, especially during the Gilded Age and the Edwardian era. This trend was part of a fashion "craze" for opulent, feathered headwear that lasted into the early 20th century, leading to widespread hunting of birds and driving some species towards extinction.
Men have worn plumes on their hats for centuries, with the style being most prominent during the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, and in military uniforms from the 18th and 19th centuries. The practice has served various purposes, including symbolizing high status, indicating military rank, and simply adding a decorative flourish.
