The most common type is the fortification agate, which features concentric bands that connect with themselves like the walls of a fort. Agates are formed in gas pockets within volcanic rocks, and the siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers, creating the banded or striped formations. These agates were dispersed by glaciers during the last Ice Age, and they can be found in areas reached by those glaciers,
