Sydenstricker Hand-Crafted Vintage Fused Art Glass Bowl

Ruffled fused art vintage glass bowl with cobalt blue pattern hand-crafted by Bill Sydenstricker, circa 1960's. Excellent condition - NWT, no chips or cracks. Measures approx. 7" diameter on top by 1.5" high. Weighs 9.6 oz. Etch signed on the bottom with original label. Made in Brewster, MA USA. In the mid 1960’s on Cape Cod, Bill Sydenstricker developed a new craft inspired by the extensive research he had conducted while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on early Egyptian art. His efforts resulted in new and exciting glass designs produced by a method similar to the ancient art of enameling. The process involves placing a stencil on a sheet of clear glass, sifting powdered glass over it, and then covering it with another sheet of clear glass before firing it in a kiln. Today Bill Sydenstricker’s apprentices continue to create new and innovative glass designs with the standards he instilled. From the stencil drawing to the finished piece, all items are hand-crafted in the workshop just beneath the gallery in Cape Cod - Brewster, Ma . Although Bill Sydenstricker is no longer with us, his artistic creations continue to be made at Sydenstricker Glass in the same unique way for the last fifty years. Pieces are on exhibit in major galleries and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Toronto Museum of Art, the Tiffany Museum in Winter Park, Florida, and the Chrysler Museum. Several American Embassies provide dessert services of Sydenstricker Glass.
