Mata Ortiz Pottery
Artist: David Bejarano
Hand Made - Rolled Coil & Pinch Method - Sanded - Then Hand Painted
Hand Painted
Etched - Sgraffito
This handcrafted Mata Ortiz pottery olla by artist David Bejarano features intricate designs of a deer, ram, birds, and cactus, showcasing traditional Mexican artistry. Made from white clay, it reflects the rich cultural heritage of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. This beautiful piece shows lots of the beauty in nature all on one very nicely designed pottery piece. David begins with the sgraffito on piece then creates his fabulous design which is one of David's trademarks when making pieces.
All pieces are totally hand made clear down to the gathering the clay - rinsing the clay to make useable - coil rolling the clay to start building the piece. Once piece is to that point then the potter starts the polishing getting ready for the hand painting. Even small pieces take a lot of time before the finished product is ready. All the potters are so very proud of their creations and rightfully so.
