Elegant, vintage, blue and gold powder compact made by Stratton England for the Orient Express travel line. The luxury train line began in 1883 and has sold many beautifully made souvenir items that travelers have asked for. This interest in VSOE travel items gained a market lot from the publicity from Agatha Christie’s mystery fiction novel whose story is set on the train. Two popular films based on that book came along and boosted additional demand for the items; others are listed as well. This powder compact was purchased in 2010. It comes in its own beautiful dark blue box with a satin lining. The compact once had a sifter and puff inside, but they had deteriorated — replacements for these may be found. The gold plating is still very good. The compact does show light scratches and imperfections on its top side from being in a handbag without its box. Please look at the photos carefully
