Ostby formed a jewelry manufacturing partnership called Ostby & Barton in Providence, Rhode Island. The company became one of the largest jewelry manufacturers in the nation and was known as the world's largest producer of gold rings. The Titanic: Ostby's fame is also tied to the Titanic. He and his daughter, Helene, were passengers on the ship during its fateful voyage in 1912. Ostby died in the disaster, but his daughter survived.
