Tony (Antonio) Aguilar Sr.
-Santo Domingo, Kewa Pueblo, NM
-1917 - 2002
-Active 1940's - 2002
-Taught by Wilfred Jones, Santa Fe Indian School, 1942
Award winning, highly collectible, & exhibited. His pieces are VERY hard to find.
Dates from 1960's - early 1970's. WW2 vet & influenced by his time in Teheran, Iran, & w/Spanish religious jewelry, & Indian Pawn jewelry.
Known for working w/ brass & the amazing stamp work on barrel beads.Worked primarily w/RAW untreated turquoise, a lost art as most turquoise is now stabilized.
This necklace is RAW turquoise. Not dyed or stabilized. Next wearer will need to treat w/care when using & storing.
Because of age there are small flea bites w/ some beads. Not a perfect piece, but also 65 yrs old! That's what makes it beautiful, interesting, & historic.
UNSURE of the turquoise type. NOT sky blue. Turquoise comes in several shades. To me a MORE green-blue (not blue-green). Stunning w/gorgeous Carmel brown matrix. Possibly Carico Lake?
Photos taken inside & outside, w/out filters in natural light.
-Graduated hand rolled heishi beads, Brass barrel beads, tips & closure.
-21.5" Smooth Beads .5" - 25"
-Strung on gut
-Weight as shown
My own piece & not a reseller.Have used & stored this w/ care for several years.
