It looks like maybe the pull from the zipper is missing, can you post another angle of that zipper from the side? Also why do you suppose caused the discoloration?

@momrocks59 Yes the zipper pull is missing. I have had this bag for awhile. I am unsure what caused the discoloration. The discoloration is on the back of the bag, so not visible when worn.
