...this isn't a vase...it's an oil lantern. The brass portion is missing that holds the wick and the glass hurricane globe.

Kindly send an image to confirm your comment. There is no indication on this piece that anything was altered and removed. Maybe it was a one off as it was purchased from the potter. Could be really rare?
