Handmade leather marigold brooch by a Canadian artisan, early 1980s. Individually crafted with nuanced color variation & finely shaped petals, creating a lifelike, dimensional form.
I visited the artist’s Montreal studio: a hidden garden of leather flowers, leaves, butterflies & botanical forms. Each piece was handmade; only scent & movement were missing. I was charmed & collected many of his works to make a framed collage that was never completed.
It represents a marigold inspired by flowers common to Canadian gardens. The focus is artistic interpretation, with careful attention to petal layering, color depth & form.
From the early 1980s, so it predates mass-produced leather flowers. The craftsmanship is more detailed & individual, with each element cut, shaped & painted by hand. No two pieces are exactly alike. Hue varies subtly with light.
Never worn. Stored carefully since purchase.
Condition: Mint
Closure: Secure pin back
Size: Coin shown is for scale reference
Brooches are back in focus — embraced by stylists & fashion editors as a standout jewelry trend for 2026. Wear on a blazer lapel, wool coat, scarf, hat, or bag
A unique example of Canadian wearable art, ideal for lovers of botanical design, slow craft & distinctive vintage accessories. Suitable for gifting.
Note: A related listing featuring the PEI provincial flower emblem by the same artisan is also available. That larger piece is initialed; this marigold is not, due to its smaller scale.
