Charming antique sterling silver dance card holder with original attached mechanical pencil, dating to the early 20th century (Edwardian period).
The decorative holder features elegant hand-engraved scrollwork and a classic monogram in flowing script (appears to read “JBM” in traditional monogram style). The engraving is crisp and beautifully executed, framed by a beveled geometric border.
The holder is marked Sterling, while the original pencil is marked Triple Plated, which was typical of the period. The two remain connected by their original chain.
These pieces were worn to formal dances and balls, where ladies would record dance partners for the evening — a romantic and functional accessory from a bygone era.
Details:
• Era: Edwardian, circa 1900–1915
• Material: Sterling silver holder (pencil is triple plated)
• Original chain and pencil attached (no lead)
• Engraved monogram
• Good antique condition with age-appropriate patina
A lovely piece of social history and a wonderful addition to any antique silver collection.
