These are vintage Japanese Damascene cufflinks, most likely made by the renowned company Amita around the 1950s. The design features a serene bamboo motif, a common theme in traditional Japanese art.
Art Form: The cufflinks are made using Damascene (or Zogan in Japanese), an art form involving the inlay of precious metals like 24K gold and sterling silver into a base of oxidized steel or shakudo (a copper-gold alloy).
Motif: The rectangular panels depict bamboo stalks and leaves.
Setting: The decorative panels are bezel-set in a gold-tone or gold-plated frame, often with textured or beveled edges.
Origin: The brand Amita was founded by Shintaro Amita in Kyoto, Japan, in 1932.
Legacy: Amita Damascene is considered a traditional Kyoto handicraft with a history spanning over a thousand years. The company was particularly active in the post-WWII period, resuming business in 1947 and even opening a training school for craftsmen in 1952.
Elegant cufflinks crafted with precision, featuring intricate metalwork that showcases traditional Japanese artistic techniques. The design incorporates delicate bamboo and leaf motifs etched on a dark background and framed by a textured gold-toned border.
