Listing is for a brass antique ashtray from my great-grandparents' estate. This was a gift to them from their friend, Brigadier-General John Magruder, who had been a military attaché overseas from 1918 to 1939, during which he picked up this item. We believe it is part of a brass collection he bought in (pre-communist) China during his time there from 1922-1932.
This is good sized art deco brass ashtray featuring the Bruxelles Boy / Manneken Pis in the center of an oval dish flanked by 2 cherubs. The Mannekin Pis, or Little Pee Man in Flemish, is a statue fountain located close to the Grande Place in Brussels, Belgium. This heavy ashtray is larger than most of its kind, and dates from the 1920s/30s. There is some patina and discoloration that proper cleaning can take care of.
Measures approx 7" x 4.5" x 2.75"
In excellent vintage/antique condition. From a non-smoking home (ironically).
