This gorgeous vintage Weiss brooch from the mid 20th century is a wonderful example of the grey/rhinestone pieces for which the company is known. Albert Weiss, who formerly worked for the Coro jewelry company, founded the Weiss jewelry company in 1942 - the company specialized primarily in high-quality rhinestones in clear and colors, along with outstanding floral and figural designs. The attention to detail and quality craftsmanship is reflected in this beautiful brooch, which measures 2 inches tall by 1-3/4 inches wide. This figural bunch of grapes is made of rhodium plated silver tone metal with prong-set smoky grey and clear rhinestones in marquis and round cuts, with a baguette cut rhinestone representing the "stem". A swirling "vine" of silver tone metal set with tiny clear rhinestones trails down the enter of the piece. This piece appears on page 151 of the book entitled "Costume Jewelers-The Golden Age of Design" by Joanne Dubbs Ball. Signed "Weiss". This brooch is in excellent condition and has been appraised by Dr. Lori Verderame.
