This item is a vintage (antique?) Chinese red cinnabar lacquer trinket box, historically used for jewelry, pills. Traditionally crafted by layering many coats of lacquer colored with cinnabar (mercury sulfide) over a core, which is then carved with intricate designs The inside and base is lacquered in matte black. Vintage piece in vintage condition. Some of the gold edge lacquer has faded. General signs of use as it is very vintage. Overall good vintage condition. No chips or cracks
