9 - Canada 25 cents RCMP 100th Anniversary
1973 quarters
May 3, 1873 - The Parliament of Canada establishes a central police force to patrol newly acquired land in western Canada, and sends 150 recruits west to Manitoba. The new police force became known as the North West Mounted Police (NWMP).
Historical Context and Commemorative Design
In 1973, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative quarter to mark the 100th anniversary of the RCMP. This special edition featured a unique reverse design by Paul Cedarberg, depicting a mounted RCMP officer in a detailed side profile. The dual dates "1873-1973" prominently displayed on the reverse highlight the centennial milestone of this iconic Canadian institution, commonly known as the "Mounties."
Coins are all circulated but in great condition.
