A mid century vintage needlepoint framed tapestry made for Eaton's (once Canada's dominant department store) before 1963 (the T. Eaton mark on the back was changed to Eaton's in 1963). It is a knitted copy of an engraving made in 1796, "A New Love Song Only Ha'Penny A Piece," by Francis Wheatley, itself a copy of a work by Anthony Cardon. It displays a woman accepting some coins from a pair of men (no doubt for a song) while a mother and baby watch and a child plays with a dog. As is obvious the frame is damaged on the right and has a nick on the left.
The frame is 14 3/4" wide by 19" high and 1 1/2" deep.
