simduchesne Hello, are they polarized?

sterlingpine69 Hello Clifford, are the lenses glass?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss They are!
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Cool man, the good stuff. Do the lenses have any damage of any sort ie chips or nicks or light/heavy scratches in the lenses?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 brand new pair, got them free because the older version broke on me, so AO replaced them. I have a silver pair I use with prescription, so I kept these in their case.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Is the frame truly square?/Are there any bends in the temples (arms) or the front frame?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 frames and lenses are what the factory gave me. No bends, no dents, no scratches.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 The reason I ask they look strange in the photo, but to me it appears like it could be the reflection of the wrinkles from the cloth beneath. I ask because people tend to bend them close to the hinges for a customized fit.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 the bayonet has a sharper curve then Randolphs and new AO's. They retooled their machines at the factory, so newer models have a smooth curve, and older versions have a more edged bend.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Oh proper then mate. I hope you were within your 1 year warranty.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 I was, but they gave me the older version still, as rules are rules.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 When did AO send you these? Yeah the curve in the bayonets is more aggressive for sure but I meant about 1/2" away from the hinges, the reflections in the shine of the gold looked funky.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I can tell that these are the older model/pre-retool based on the bayonets and the old AO logo on the lenses & temple stamping.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Oh and the case design... Where did the frame break on your last pair?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss the nose pad broke unfortunately
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Wtf, that is insane...
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Out of curiosity, do you have clear or tinted glass Rx lenses in your silver pair?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 tinted. I have a black pair of Randolphs for clear Rx.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Did AO make your tinted Rx in your silver frame? & cool, black with clear must look nice.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I ordered a few pairs of RE Aviators last week & they arrived earlier today, I find the slant of the lenses of the RE are too aggressive for my face...
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 100% trust me, my best friend, my father and myself have spent hours obsessing over which size and which brand is best. Go 52mm AO.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 52mm RE are too small and sharp, and 52mm AO are slightly larger some how aesthetically. Get Gold for the astronaut 70s look, and matte black and matte silver if you want to different palate.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I think that the history of AO is cooler & the softer design of the lenses is better than the RE...
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 if you even go blind like me, you should think about Rx lenses, Zeiss is my go to, because their not owned by the Luxoticca monopoly
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 That is because the 52mm AO lenses are a 2 mm taller than the RE 52mm, I have photos of measurement charts from each manufacturer, I can email you them if you care.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I love the gold or the silver, the matte chrome looks too cheap in my opinion. I am Italian, so I like shiny things haha.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 Its cool. AO will forever be cooler simply because of the history and shape.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 true, but the subtlety of matte can be nice, black is good as a work horse, they're getting a nice worn patina now
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Like you I am blind! I have Zeiss glass lenses in a pair of gloss black Persol 3272 sunglasses. I am saddened that Luxottica owns Persol... Since the late 1990's if I am not mistaken.
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 A man of culture I see. I even have a McQueen poster in the house. You've got taste good sir.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Thank you kindly, I deem you the same.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Funny we both have black frames Rx Zeiss...
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Which McQueen poster, Bullitt?
May 25Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 yah, the old school version too.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Oh that's proper cool.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 When the 55mm RE that I ordered arrive, which should be sometime next week, I'll test the fit of the 55mm & I'll contact you if I want to pull the trigger on your AOs or not. I'm going to return all 3 pairs of RE to the shop I purchased from because the slant of the RE is too much for me haha.
May 25Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Hey Cliff, I just received the 55 RE today, too big indeed. I agree with you & your father & friend that 52mm AO are the way to go. They fit the face better. I will be returning all the RE that I got. And sadly, I will not be buying your 55 AO.
May 29Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 that cool man, I figured. Happy to give advice all the same!
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I wanted the 55 to fit so much, but the 52 proportions are just too elegant...
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 & just to note, the tilt of the 52 RE is much greater than on the 55 RE. While still present on the 55, the 52 is much more noticeable..
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 & thanks for your advice man, it is much appreciated.
May 29Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 It is, my friend has 52 RE's in gold, but honestly, you just need to commit to the look and own it.
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 They would work on me but preference still leans in AO's direction haha.
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 I wish you luck with the sale of your 55 AO's & all your future acquisitions.
May 29Reply
cliffordmoss
cliffordmoss @sterlingpine69 thank you, I wish you likewise
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 Thank you Sir, enjoy the rest of this lovely day, take care & ciao for now.
May 29Reply
sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 @cliffordmoss I tried buying a pair of 52? (she didn't know or couldn't provide me the size) RE Aviators as a "beater" pair of sunglasses from @stephanyxo99. After 2+ weeks of patiently waiting for her to answer my questions (I made multiple (fruitless) attempts to get this information from her) she always snubbed me. I made her a low offer just to see if she'd reply & she counteroffered almost immediately haha. Leads me to suspect that they were fake.

sterlingpine69 @cliffordmoss, the reason I share this experience with you is to remind you that you are a proper gentleman & you provide hope for positive encounters out there. I will remember my brief encounter with you. I am most likely done with Poshmark because I am sick of dealing with low class individuals with poor etiquette that lack simple manners.

sterlingpine69
sterlingpine69 @cliffordmoss I have to redact my opinion of her in my 2 posts above, we worked things out & ended up reaching an agreement. @stephanyxo99 was pleasant this time around & she handled me well. My apologies to you and ultimately to her for my temper.
