Guanyin, also known as Guan Yin, is a prominent Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, particularly revered in East Asia. She is the Chinese translation of the Indian bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara. In China, Guanyin is often depicted as a female figure, embodying mercy, kindness, and fertility.
A soft pastel toned ceramic sculpture (most likely porcelain), partially unglazed, of the goddess Guanyin in her form as bringer of fertility, holding a baby boy - although she would make a beautiful representation of the Madonna and child.
It has elegant flow and movement to the form. The condition is AS-IS, there is a large hairline crack going from the bottom to about half way up the figure. The baby boy had both leg (and toes on one foot) broken and glued, with some glue running up her sleeve. The little glazing dot on the goddess´ forehead is missing.
Size: 16 inches tall (40.5 cm)
