Manoukian began his career in the fashion industry in 1972. Established as a franchise in 1979, the company eventually opened 450 stores throughout the world, 300 of which are in France. After the Manoukian company was sold in 2005 to BCBG, Alain Manoukian now heads the Financiere Saxe development group based in France. In 1973, French clothing designer Alain Manoukian opened his first off-the-rack women’s clothing line. At first, he dealt only in Italian designs, Alain soon realized his creations much better. In six years later, he created his line of clothing and franchised his line to department stores, online clothing sites, and individual entrepreneurs. Headquartered in France, he has more than 1300 stores in North American Belgium, Russia and Japan.
