raccoonluv66 @traces_bluedoor hi...they really don’t attack unless they feel threatened. Especially if they have babies around. Raccoons and cats coexist beautifully together. You can try spraying peppermint oil around to keep them away. They hate the smell of peppermint. I in the spring. Mom gets trapped and killed without realizing there’s babies left behind 😢

thegetfitnurse @raccoonluv66 OMG so you actually have a pet raccoon?! The babies are soooo cute. I have always wanted one but I know it’s pretty difficult to domesticate them. Awesome pics. I have volunteered with dog and cat rescues and even got to volunteer to help with LA Zoo animals when my friend was a vet there but I have never gotten to hold or pet a raccoon so I am super envious! 🥰😻🙀

raccoonluv66 @thegetfitnurse I don’t have any as pets. Raccoons have always been my passion since I was a little girl. I do rescue/rehab on them. Always orphaned babies in the spring. I raise them until they are ready for release. I would have one as a pet if the laws here would allow. I would take an unreleasable raccoon any day. They don’t make good pets as they get aggressive once they reach adolescence. 😊

norasark67 I had to stop and say you are my kind of girl. I also am the one picking up strays, feeding my animals before myself, etc. Unfortunately, Ohio is a state that if you have a raccoon in your chimney and you call someone they are supposed to euthanize it. raccoonluv66 @norasark67 yes, same here in NY too. That’s why I do what I do. This time of the year is baby season. So we get a lot of orphaned babies for that reason. People call an exterminator and they don’t realize there’s babies left behind. I believe these creatures need a voice and deserve a fighting chance. They are incredibly sweet and smart. I have a house full of rescued dogs, cats, and a rat. Lol

raccoonluv66 @1kittendeville I rehab them. Older ones are hard to handle. The babies are easy. Just so hard to say good bye to them when I have to release them. My wild ones that come to eat at night let me touch them. They eat out of my hands. They bring their babies to me every year. It’s all about trust. They call me the raccoon whisperer

raccoonluv66 @tailsspayneuter omg! Tell me about it! I’m on Long Island. It’s been never ending. I caught 3 separate litters in my yard alone this year. With covid the vets are all backed up for spay and neutering. I have all these new older kittens having litters now. I try to trap them when they’re young enough to socialize and adopt, but some don’t surface until they’re past the pointing ever socializing. It’s a serious problem where I live

tailsspayneuter @raccoonluv66 sorry - didn’t realize I hadn’t responded! We are basically across the Sound from each other. We are in Westport, CT...most of our TNR is in Bridgeport/Stratford. A bottomless pit. I Just took in a litter of 6 on Tuesday - my only comment: “what ever happened to a litter of 2?!” (“None” being my first choice of course). I think we are around 40 in foster right now - about half of the height earlier in the year 🤞🤞. Keep it up!! 😻👏👍

I do deer, fox, squirrels, skunks, bobcat, groundhog, opposum, raccoons. I won’t touch fox anymore since catching scabies 😳 I always wanted to get involved with deer. I just love them. Raccoons are my specialty and not many people around me will rehab them. Been doing raccoons since I was 9 years old when I dragged a raccoon home that was hit by a car. Lol

tawnyareber @raccoonluv66 aw, I built a 12 x 12 x 20 divided pen. I had 7 skunks, 7 raccoons,4 squirrels, 2 fawns, and an opposum last year. due to covid, there were only 2 of us in my county. one side is for skunks and one for coons. foxy is in one side now. he was 8 weeks when he came here. I've only held him a few times. I try not to tame them as release in fall. he wants to play with my dogs and cats when they are out there. the deer are special. very smart!

hoarderhaven Someday when I have more time I would love to show you the pictures I have of the raccoons are used to play with, I wish I still had this life but have become bed ridden in excruciating pain. Remind me after January after I have to move I will tell you the story and the pictures. One night I had 15 raccoons visit, this was at UCSB. Love your pictures of course. My favorite raccoon was a loner I named playful. I wish we had videos in those days. I talk about him a little on my raccoon listing

raccoonluv66 @hoarderhaven I would love to see your pictures. They call me the raccoon whisperer. I feed my neighborhood raccoons by hand. They come right up to me. I had one for years that I named Fred. He would come every night and just hang with me on my porch. He would sit in the chair and find stuff to play with. I had a mamma that brought her babies to me. Those babies would climb all over me. They would watch me from my skylight in my kitchen. It was the cutest thing.

hoarderhaven @raccoonluv66 you are so lucky, I don’t know what part of the country you’re in but they r everywhere. I can hear them from a window where I’m cooped up, frustrating I can’t get to them as I used to. bears are descended from raccoons. little bears. Natives Americans call them “little masked bear”. Every night playful would find his peanuts on the window shield, come into the car, rummage around then curl up behind the right rear tire&take a nap. He was a real comedian. They are curious

hoarderhaven I rescued playful & family from a dumpster in the pouring rain. One time I rescued some from the dumpster by putting a board slant so they could walk out. There was 2 babies whose mom got hit by a car I named “the dinkies. “ maybe I will remember more of their names later. After a while a fox started watching, each night he would come a little closer, finally close enough to feed him. He used to love to chase round crackers like a ball, that had peanut butter in them. I managed to get pix of him

cyndlyn @raccoonluv66, my pleasure. My grandmother was the one who got me started on buying jewelry. She was addicted to the home shopping channels. She bought so much. I inherited all of her jewelry when she passed. I am finally ready to part with most of my collection. I just don't have the space. I know that it should be worn. If I ever clear out mine, I would love to get into the estate sale jewelry buying.
