Antique 18th C. Giuseppe Zocchi Etching "Villa della Luna" Tuscany Grand Tour Art
An authentic 18th-century, hand-colored copperplate etching depicting a stunning view of a Tuscan villa. This historic piece, titled "Villa della Luna delli S.S.ri Mar.si Guadagni," is from an original drawing by the celebrated Italian artist Giuseppe Zocchi (1711-1767). The engraving was executed by Pietro Monaco and is marked as plate number 42.
This print originates from Zocchi's famous series, "Vedute delle Ville e d'altri luoghi della Toscana" (Views of the Villas and other places in Tuscany), published in 1744. These "vedute" (view) prints were highly sought after by wealthy Europeans on their "Grand Tour" of Italy, serving as sophisticated souvenirs. The subject is the Villa Gamberaia in Settignano, near Florence, owned at the time by the Guadagni family.
This is a genuine piece of European history, perfect for collectors of antique prints, architectural art, or anyone desiring a statement piece with a rich story.
Condition: The etching itself appears in good antique condition for being over 275 years old, with some expected age-related toning. It is professionally matted. However, the paper backing of the frame shows significant water staining and damage. The condition of the print's reverse side is unknown and it is being sold as-is. The piece is housed in a vintage gilt wood frame. Please inspect all photos thoroughly.
