...Underwood South African army infantry stereoview cards
A pairing of Antique Stereoview cards by Underwood & Underwood Publishers / the other card by Realistic travels of infantry men in the field during the Boer War in South Africa.
The darker image, by Realistic travels is marked " Advance Guard of the South African Infantry firing on the retreating Germans", Realistic Travels Publishers, London - Capetown - Bombay - Melbourne - Toronto, By Royal command to their Imperial Majesties King George V and Queen Mary". The images are glossy photographs mounted on grey card stock - the images darkened with shadows (a sign that they were hastily printed and most likely not fixed long enough, or the fixer was exhausted). The infantrymen can still be clearly seen in the field, but the contrast on these images is not great. The card is in good shape. The back is blank
The lighter image by Underwood & Underwood is marked "Gen Kelly Kenny´s Infantry creeping on the Boers at Dreifontein - on the march to Bloemfontein, South Africa, copyright 1901 by Underwood & Underwood - New York, London, Toronto - Canada, Ottawa-Kansas. The satin gloss albumen photographs are mounted on grey stock, the images have lightened with age. The image is nice and sharp and pelnty of detail can still be picked out. The contrast could be better. The card stock is in nice shape, The back with the title in several languages.
Size: ca 3.5 x 7 " (standard sized)
