An exquisite cup to commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on June 22nd, 1911.
The cup features portraits of both king and queen in monochrome black which lie in a bed of flowers including roses, thistles, daffodils and shamrocks to symbolise the four Home Nations. The Union Jack and the Royal Standard stand either side whilst a Royal Coat of Arms soars above. A scroll below reads “King George V crowned June 1911 Queen Mary” whilst an ornate crown sits between the two portraits.
On a separate panel, the crest of Shipley, a village in Derbyshire, appears alongside the phrase “Shipley June 22nd 1911” as that was the town which commissioned the cup.
Both the rim and handle are highlighted in gilt gold.
