Here is an antique copy of "Stories from George Eliot" selected by Amy Cruse, published by George G. Harrap & Company in 1913, First Edition, thus.
This highly decorative book has faded brown cloth covered boards with black lettering on the cover and spine. There is a black outlined illustration on the cover along with floral decoration on the spine. There are many charming black and white illustrations, 254 pages and no dustjacket. Mary Ann Evans, known by her pen name George Eliot, was an English novelist, poet, journalist, translator, and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her works are known for their realism, psychological insight, sense of place and detailed depiction of the countryside.
This book is in very good condition. The cover and spine are worn with some loss and bumped corners. There are school stamps on the front and back end pages and a library envelope inside the front cover. There are no marks on the inner pages except for some yellowing and the odd smudge. The binding is good and tight.
Give it as a gift for a favorite youngster or keep it as a treasured memory.
