...decorative Chinese pottery jar
A pretty antique hexagonal Chinese pottery ginger jar, Shekwan /Shiwa jar. Hexagonal pots such as these were handmade in the late 1800´s - early 1900s to ship and store ginger, and no doubt some other pickled vegetables. Today, it can be used to store spices, as a flower vase, or simply be decorative or part of a collection. It really adds a lovely pop of colour to any interior, be it minimalist or farmhouse rustic!
This one looks to be ca 1910 - 1920s, judging from the colour of the unglazed bottom, and is a classic forest green with plant motif panel sides. The bottom is unglazed and there are no makers marks. It is in decent condition with many charming irregularities due to the handmade nature of the pot, including a significant thumb-sized dent on the side of the pot. I cannot quite make out if it has a hairline crack or if it is a crackle to the glazing.
