...pottery jar with straw netting
A pretty antique hexagonal Chinese pottery ginger jar, Shekwan /Shiwa jar. Hexagonal pots such as these were handmade in the late 1800´s - early 1900s to ship and store ginger, and no doubt some other pickled vegetables. Today, it can be used to store spices, as a flower vase, or simply be decorative or part of a collection. It really adds a lovely pop of colour to any interior, be it minimalist or farmhouse rustic!
This one looks to be ca 1910 - 1920s, judging from the colour of the unglazed bottom, and is a vibrant green-blue with plant motif panel sides. The bottom is unglazed and there are no makers marks. It is in good condition without cracks or chips, there are some charming irregularities due to the handmade nature of the pot. It has the straw work cage and the original handles. The handles have been bent flat and dries in this position, one of them split at the top.
