These are old-fashioned soldering irons, also called a soldering copper, after the pointy hunk of metal at its business end. You heat it up in a fire or with a blowtorch, rest it on a seam, then touch a stick of solder on one of the facets. The stick instantly melts into a silvery river that runs down to fill the seam. An iron of the size of the big one would easily have soldered together copper roofs, flashing, or gutters and downspouts. In the right hands, it could still do those jobs today.
These have come out of our Father's things. I'm not sure if he collected them or owned them to use.
