Antique Damascene Oval Brooch

This antique damascene brooch has a barrel pin clasp closure and is stamped VL on the clasp (most likely for Valencia, Damascene capital of the world). The brooch has a dark front with gold and silver accents, and a flat gold tone back. There is tone loss and darkening around the barrel end of the clasp, and some general wear and minor tone loss throughout. While Damascene traditionally involves inlaying gold and silver, I am unable to confirm the purities of the metals used in this piece.
