Pair of framed antique prints. These prints are in their original frames by T. Eaton. Some decorative pieces of the frames are missing due to age and use. There is also a repair to the bottom of one frame. The prints are in very good condition. They appear to have been well protected by the frames.
This is a pair of complementary 18th century prints by Francois Boucher in 1765 (1703-1770). Engraved by writer Jacques-Firmin Beauvarlet (1731-1797). I believe
they are later impressions (19th century)
The first print Le Depart du Courier is a young shepherd seated whilst attaching a messaged to a pigeon’s leg. There is a dog, some sheep and a bagpipe in the picture as well. The picture is oval.
The second print L’Arrivee du Courier depicts a young woman sitting on a tree with farm animals at her feet awaiting the arrival of the mail.
They are dedicated to Madame la Marquise de Montesquiou and were presented in Paris at the salon of 1765.
These are true collector's pieces!
