Hat pins were used for large hats and elaborate hair styles from the 1880s through the 1910s. Both the pins - and the holders used to conveniently store and display them- were highly decorative. This 4-2/3 inch porcelain holder features handpainted white roses and is marked RS Germany. The Kovels Antique Trader website tells us "RS Germany is part of the wording in marks used by the Tillowitz, Germany, factory of Reinhold Schlegelmilch from 1914 until about 1945."
I am including two hat pins: one topped with an open work gold tone metal globe (just over 4"), the other with a white glass top (about 2-1/2"). All items are in excellent condition.
This is one of four hat pin holders from an estate that I have listed.
