This antique brooch is made of a brass tone metal and comes to us from the early 20th century (1900-1915). The catch appears to be a repair/replacement (modern c), but the pin itself appears to have a t-bar hinge and the end of the pin extends beyond the (new) catch. The brooch is diamond/rhombus shaped and the main cameo piece is made of glazed ceramic that has been hand painted in green and orange tones. Under a loupe, the brushstrokes are clear (and clearly not a printed transfer). I believe the cameo depicts Hermes (Mercury), the messenger of the Gods. The exterior of the cameo has a thin twisted brass metal frame.
The brooch has normal wear throughout, including the replaced catch, and dirt/oxidization on the back. Normally I would try to clean this kind of wear, but I know collectors are purists (and I don't want to risk damaging the piece). Finally, there is a dark mark on the left side, nearly at the corner point, that I don't believe is original to the design. Please have a look at the pictures and send me a message if you have any specific questions.
