...Britannia metal smoking desk accessory, match box pusher
A gorgeous Jugendstil match box holder or pusher by renown German maker WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in a simple pattern with elegant lines and swirls on the edges. You would place a matchbox on the little cube, pushing against the drawer. You´d push it down and take a match out. The burned out matches could be placed on the tray surround and it would be kept next to an ashtray or candlesticks. Alternatively, it would make a nice little trinket dish or pen rest.
It has clear marks on the bottom. ´B´ for Britannia metal, a little running ostrich and WMF/G for the WMF brand made for the German market and it dates it between 1910 and 1925. The I/O designated a ´normal silver coating´ and OX stands for ´oxidised silver´. It also has the capital letter ´K´
Condition: The body with wear overall, but not too bad when it comes to the surface being worn. The top with a few small spots of the silvery finish missing. The bottom a touch bent and it does not sit 100% flush on a flat surface. The material is fairly soft and it could be carefully bent back into shape.
Size: 4-1/4 inches wide x 3-1/4 inches deep x 1.5 inches high (10.8 x 8.2 x 3.8 cm)
