This elegant hexagonal porcelain vase is a beautiful example of Nippon-era Noritake craftsmanship, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1917). During this period, Japanese porcelain was highly sought after for the Western market, particularly during World War I when European imports were limited. Pieces exported to the U.S. were marked “Nippon,” in accordance with customs regulations of the time.
Marked “Noritake Nippon” (pre-1921), this vase features a delicately hand-painted floral motif with soft roses and cascading foliage set against a subtle cream-to-green-blue gradient. The hexagonal form and gently flared rim give it a distinctive silhouette, while gold trim at the base and rim adds a refined finishing touch.
It is believed this piece may have been imported as a blank and later hand-painted by an artist, making it potentially a one-of-a-kind or small-run decorative work. While the exact origin of the painting is left to the buyer’s interpretation, the artistry and attention to detail are unmistakable.
