Antique Bobbin Lace Collars Handmade Victorian Style Creamy White Lady's 2 Piece Attachable
These two-pieces of antique bobbin lace were designed for a woman's dress collar in the early 1900s. They have never been used and are creamy white in colour. The dainty design is of scrolls and florals. They are ready to be sewn to a garment, such as a vintage style wedding dress, bohemian dress, sweater, or perhaps a shabby chic style garment. For a wedding collar, it would be the perfect "something old"! They are each 36 cm (14 inches) long, and 6 cm (2.5 inches) at the widest part.
Bobbin lace, handmade lace was important in fashion from the 16th to the early 20th century. Bobbin laces are made by using a “pricking,” a pattern drawn on parchment or card that is attached to a padded support, the pillow or cushion. An even number of threads (from 8 to more than 1,000) are looped over pins arranged at the top of the pattern. Each thread is wound at its lower end around the neck of an elongated spool, or bobbin. Bobbins serve several purposes: their weight provides a tension that makes manipulation of the threads easier; they act as thread reserves; and they help to keep the thread clean by providing a surface other than the thread that can be touched frequently.
