A wooden beam normally used between a pair of oxen or other animals to enable them to pull together on a load when working in pairs. The first harnessed animal was an ox around 4000 BC. Oxen were used to drag things around with a harness.

Hardwood Double Ox Yoke is 3 feet, 1 inch (or 37 inches long)
Believe it is hard maple.
This piece is from the mid to late 1800's and is in amazing condition for the age.
