Antique leather carpenters tape measure 50ft Lufkin Rule Co / Hughes-Owen Co Ltd

An antique leather bound tape measure, perfect for industrial décor or even to use! The increments are in inches, and this one goes to 50ft in length. The chestnut brown leather sides are beautifully age-worn and the embossed lettering of the 2 companies (one on each side) has faded significantly. One reads " The Lufkin Rule Co, Canada, Windsor, Ont" and the other The Hughes-Owens Co Ltd, Montreal, Winnipeg, Toronto" The start of the tape has seen better days and it looks reinforced with leather and a few well-placed stitches. The tape material itself is a slightly stiff bias band-like material, almost like a starched linen. The tape winds back up with a neatly folding hand reel on the centre side of the spool. The reel folds away *very* well indeed and it can be a little tricky getting it to come free. This reel is marked Patented May 23 1893 on the inside. Overall this is a neat - and still usable - piece of history! Size: 4-1/4 inches diameter (ca 11 cm)
